"A"-SHRINE

"A"-SHRINE -is a holy or sacred place specifically dedicated to our US Servicemembers who's lives are being sacrificed in America's longest running war that is driving our economy into ruins. The war in Afghanistan is "wallpaper" to many of us-it's a collection of soundbites/photos/video snippets far removed from our daily rat race existence. "A"-SHRINE was created to bring the war home to you -up close and personal. It is a reminder of lives lost and remembered. "A"-SHRINE is an iconic multimedia reminder, reference, and remembrance to our country's involvement in a decade long war that is far from over and on many levels, is a great cost to us all. "A"-SHRINE is an artistic expression of a reality that in recent times has yet to be fully explored in the art world by those who have personally fought these wars. Art and creativity can be found in all realms of life. War is an art just as much as classical modes of creative expression - it's all a matter of perspective. Art is the best medium for social activism and relevancy. The events of 9/11 ushered in the beginning of a world that would never be the same. In 2007 that resonance culminated in me joining the US Army and becoming an Army broadcast journalist. Prior to that decision, I was a NYC based freelance writer/ producer/director working across media platforms. I joined for a myriad of reasons but mostly to see for myself what was really going on out in the world and how this experience would affect my work as a multimedia artist. On September 10, 2009, I was deployed with my unit to Kandahar, Afghanistan where I supported NATO/ISAF operations against the Taliban until late August 2010.
